Take a look at Nix’s motion capture puppet from Star Wars Outlaws

As motion capture technology has grown in the world of game development, actors and technicians alike have sought ways to fill fake stages with objects and scenery that can motivate actors' performances. In games like Star Wars Outlaws, actors are tasked not just with acting out dramatic cutscenes, but sometimes doing so with creatures big and small that a human being can't easily be subbed in for.

One such creature in Outlaws is Nix, a one-of-a-kind Axolotl-like creature called a "merqaal" who helps player character Kay Vess (played by Humberly González) on her heists, and joins her for some delicious meals from street vendors across the galaxy. With Nix attached to Vess'…

Another Code Recollection Review – Full Of Mysteries

I’ll admit upfront: I missed Another Code (known in North America as Trace Memory) when it first came out on Nintendo DS. Despite voraciously consuming other DS adventure games like Phoenix Wright, Ghost Trick, 999, and original Another Code developer Cing’s other title, Hotel Dusk, Another Code just slipped by me. And with the sequel, Another Code R, being a European Wii exclusive, catching up there wasn’t easy to do. So when Nintendo announced remakes of the two Another Code games for Switch, I was eager to correct those wrongs and see what the now-sadly-defunct Cing had put together. To my surprise, Recollection is fundamentally different from the originals in a number of ways–all-new visuals and updated puzzles, for example–and these quality of life improvements helped m…

Destiny 2's New Iron Banner Guns Revealed For Next Season

Bungie has revealed a set of four new weapons that’ll be available in the next season of Destiny 2 for players willing to take on the challenge of its Iron Banner competitive event. The slate of guns includes a hand cannon, a sniper rifle, a machine gun, and a shotgun. The former two are weapons that previously were released in the Iron Banner in Destiny 2’s first year, while the latter two are brand new.

The new guns were shown off in a This Week at Bungie blog post, but the developer didn’t give much in the way of details. It didn’t even tell us which guns are coming back, but the two returning weapons aren’t too hard to identify. They are the 140 round-per-minute Energy hand cannon Finite Impactor and the Aggressive frame Energy sniper rifle Occluded Finality. Both were release…

Game of Thrones- Episode Three – The Sword in the Darkness Review

Everything you’ve been fighting for up to this point is finally in front of you. The third episode of Telltale’s Game of Thrones will decide whether or not you get what you want, and whether or not you need to stop thinking and just start running.

The Sword in the Darkness does an excellent job of mirroring the Game of Thrones HBO series’ tendency to place a high-tension, high-energy episode smack in the middle of a season. Episode Three never lets you catch your breath; each scene features major choices with consequences that ripple out to this chapter’s credits–characters will continue to harp on decisions made early in the episode–and hint at larger problems to come in following episodes.

Episode Three upset me in ways the first two episodes haven’t. It…

Honkai Star Rail's Story Trailer Teases Dan Heng's Past

Honkai: Star Rail’s story trailer was featured at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and it teased character Dan Heng’s past. From the video, it’s likely that Dan Heng, Jing Yuan, and Blade share some sort of complicated history. Honkai Star Rail is Hoyoverse’s upcoming free-to-play turn-based RPG game.

In Dan Heng’s nightmare, Blade–who looks like he’s been arrested for something–tells Jing Yuan, “Of five people, three must pay a price. You are not one of them, Jing Yuan.”

Madden NFL 16 Review

It feels like it was only last week that the New England Patriots’ Malcolm Butler made that fateful interception with only 20 seconds left in Super Bowl 49. Then you wake up one day and teams are already on the road to Super Bowl 50. That also means a brand new Madden NFL as per the late summer tradition. Capitalizing on the many strengths of last year’s installment, Madden NFL 16 isn’t the kind of “status quo” sequel that made the likes of Madden NFL 07 or 12 forgettable. This year’s Madden feels like an outward acknowledgement that different fans not only gravitate to different modes, but different play styles as well.

This recognition of the diversity of tastes and play preference is fitting for the 2015 installment of Madden NFL. It helped a great deal that M…
